CookieCon

Hold your breath! Sit down!

Because that’s right! I am one of the 200 hundred lucky attendees of CookieCon 2012!

Last weekend was officially the most amazing, fun, and informative cookie weekend EVER.

Since I am a newbie to the cookie world, there was a wealth of information to gather and bloggers to meet for the first time.  (Yes, I met Callye aka Sugarbelle, Maryann aka The Sugar Artisan, Elizabeth aka Arty McGoo, Lisa aka The Bearfoot Baker, Alison aka Ali Bee, Glory aka Glorious Treats, Julia Usher, and Pam aka Cookie Crazie.)

We learned how to make royal icing transfers and flowers, how to work with fondant and glaze, how to paint on cookies and airbrush them and lastly how to stencil and add more dimension. And that was just day one of two.

Then we spent Saturday morning trying out all the new techniques we had been lectured on. I really loved fondant. I want to do it lots more. Check out this cookie I made. Isn’t it pretty? And by the way, if you buy the right kind of fondant, it can actually taste good too!  Who knew?!  This was made with Satin Ice.

Then there was a competition to try out our “Cookie Think” caps. That means, looking at cookie cutter for what they are NOT. This cookie started as a Raggedy Ann cutter, but once it was bent, to me it was Doug. So I traced the cookie onto parchment, doodled a little and came up with this.

Then we spent the rest of the day learning about how to put platters together, how to package and box, how to photograph (something I really needed help with) and blogging technics and rules, and finally money making.

Wooah.  Are you tired yet?

Lastly we enjoyed the fruit of our labor and had an amazing banquet with yummy food, laughter with new friends and TONS of prizes and giveaways.  My mom had spent tireless hours putting together cookie aprons for the apron contest.  We won an apron cookie cutter for her hard work.  (PS… isn’t my momma pretty)

And that was it.  We said goodbye to our new friends, packed up our hoard of freebies and headed home.

PS. As soon as I arrived home I just HAD to organize all my cookie things in order to incorporate the gads of new stuff I had acquired.  Can you believe how big my cookie tool box is getting, and just after a couple months!  Please don’t send me to cookie rehab.  I swear I’m not an addict.
